if he spawns behind you and misses, you could ordinarily hear it and turn around, but if it is silenced you have no clue where you are beign shot
of course it matters, if there is a big fight you can get a sense of how many there are
same as using lightweight
you cant hear it, it doesn't show up on minimap
meaning use what you would ordinarily
